I’m teaching a class on beauty…?
I’m doing a project on interpretation of beauty in different cultures, and i have to teach it to my class. Problem is, the lecture has to be 45 minutes long and I need activities to do that involve the preception of beauty. I’ve considered measuring peoples faces for symmetry, but my teacher says thats too offensive. I also considered a makeup activity but my teacher also said no. So…. I’m out of ideas. Any help please?
Go on the Internet and grab as many different photos of faces and dress types that you can. You’ll find variations in what is considered skinny or fat (compare current models with those in the 1940s, even 1960s until Twiggy came along).
Aspects you might point out are:
dress (includes jewelry and shoes for women AND men. Look at how French and English elites dressed in the 1600s) (and let’s not forget tatoos)
hair
skin tone (tan is “healthy” now, but a hundred years ago, pale was chic)
height
weight/proportions (look into the “hourglass” figure and corsets)
(yes, talk about Barbie and her proportions)
